Pup-Proved! Upcoming Dog Events in Columbia and Lexington, SC

Updated: Apr 7, 2022

Almost 40% of households in America own a dog. That is over 48 million houses that have a dog...can you believe that?

Imagine if all of those people went out to dinner - at least 48 million dogs would be at home by themselves. How sad is that!

Well you (and your pup) are in luck if you live in the Columbia or Lexington area of South Carolina because there are so many dog events coming up. Not only that, but there are many dog-friendly areas in these towns. And we have you covered with the list of them all.

Dog owners, read on!

Dog Friendly Events

If you're looking to spruce things up for you and your dog, finding dog-friendly events is the perfect way to do so! You won't be guilty leaving them and they won't be sad at home alone.

Not only will you be entertained, but your pup will love you just a bit more for bringing them out of the house to somewhere new and fun!

Bark to the Park

Bark to the Park helps your pup's furry friends who need it most. It is a spring fundraiser to raise money for homeless pets.

This is an event you don't want to miss! Why? Because it starts with a .5 to 2 mile walk for you and your dog, and then ends with you being surrounded by craft beer, dog-friendly vendors, contents, and live music!

The registration fee is $40 for adults and $25 for children. Each participant receives a t-shirt and a swag bag for simply registering for the event.

How can you pass up an event that helps homeless pets, has craft beer and live music, and gives you a free t-shirt upon registration?!

Don't miss it on April 23 at 10am at Saluda Shoals Park.

Doggy Day Out

If you are interested in becoming more of an active volunteer in the dog-realm, attending this event is for you.

This is also for you if you simply want to spend more time with shelter animals! The program also helps more dogs get adopted, so if you want to see more and more puppies be welcomed by their adoring families, be sure not to miss this orientation.

The event is on April 16 at 2pm at Columbia Animal Services located at 127 Humane Lane, Columbia, SC.

Steel Paws Kickoff Event

Steel Paws Brewing is having a kickoff event at the brewery to start a mission of supporting canine initiatives year-round. The main goal is to raise money for Public Safety Canines, so money will be donated to the Cayce Police Department, Richland County Sheriff's Department and Lexington County Sheriff's Department canine and educational programing.

The event will be held on April 30 from 1-6pm. It will have raffled and live music!

There are various ticket options depending on the type of experience you want to have. You can attend the event for the price of $75 (which includes 3 craft beer tickets and light apps) or choose to go all out to have private access to facilities, a private dog show, a tasting, and 2 cases of beer to take home to enjoy later.

Additionally, a portion of the proceeds will be donated from every single case of Steel Paws wheat ale that is bought at the event.

Dog Friendly Places

If attending a dog-friendly event isn't on your to-do list, that's okay. But if you still want to take your pup with you places, here's a list of some places you and your dog can go together! They are all great for a family with dogs.

Hazelwood Brewing Company

Do you want to have a great time, but also want your puppy to have a great time? Then you'll want to grab a beer at downtown Lexington's Hazelwood Brewing Company with your dog.

There's an indoor and outdoor area, food trucks on site, and beer, wine, and snacks. There are also fireplaces outside for when it gets cold!

West Columbia Riverwalk

If you're looking to spend time outdoors with your dog, taking a stroll with them along the West Columbia Riverwalk will leave you both satisfied. You can even hop in a kayak or canoe from here.

This is great for a family with kids - you, your partner, your kiddos, and the pups!

Indah Coffee

At Indah Coffee, you can relax or tour the grounds. Whatever you decide to do here, you'll definitely want to enjoy a cup of coffee with your pup by your side.

And once you're done sipping, it's just a short drive to get downtown.

Jake's Bar and Grill

If you're looking for the place that prides themselves on being the dog-friendliest place in town, then head on over to Jake's Bar and Grill.

Don't believe us? They even have a "yappy hour!" The dogs love each other's company while you get to love on over 30 options of craft beer in front of you.

So you can bet it definitely gets quite yappy over there!

Dog Events and Dog-Friendly Places You Don't Want to Miss

If you live in the area or are just passing through with your furry friend, these are some events and places you won't want to miss! We can assure you that your dog doesn't want to miss them either.

On the other hand, if you are hosting one of these dog events, you may want to consider a waste removal service to make sure your property stays nice and clean even with all of the furry friends visiting! Your visitors will thank you!
